Superman! Look up!
Stale popcorn... but Superman delivered something special!
So, Superman! Welp, mine started with stale popcorn, but this movie was anything but stale. I’ve often heard, “Why not a comic-accurate movie?” Mr. Gunn, bravo! This version of Superman had me smiling ear to ear. James Gunn understood the assignment… with a heavy dosage of All‑Star Superman. Gunn draws from Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s 2005–08 run, incorporating key themes like Superman’s strength as a moral compass rather than just brute force. There were moments that reminded me of my childhood, sitting in front of the tube watching Christopher Reeve’s version of Superman.

James Gunn’s version doesn’t just wear the cape…he earns it. He’s not a god among men; he’s the best of us. Not because he has to be… but because he wants to be.
The cast? Absolutely fantastic. (Marvel… don’t let me down… I love me some Fantastic Four!)
So, let me focus on some of the major players here, because there are so many! Mr. Terrific brought that razor-sharp wit and tactical edge... he talked slick and backed it up. Edi Gathegi nailed this role. (Cough, cough… Mr. Gunn, I hope we get a Mr. Terrific solo movie!)
Guy Gardner was a hot-headed wrecking ball with the subtlety of a brick but his character brought a much needed balance. Was never a fan of his haircut but he wore it well.
Lois Lane? She wasn’t just fearless… she was always ten steps ahead, no-nonsense, and always in the thick of it.
Lex Luthor brought that smug, scheming energy, but this version was arrogant as hell, and I was loving every second of it. Luthor actor Nicholas Hoult embodied his hatred of Superman brilliantly. But it was his belief that humanity should be captain of its own destiny that really delivered a chef kiss for this movie.
But Krypto? Oh man. He was chaos on four legs... stealing scenes, saving lives, barking orders (literally). The Goldberg spear to Ultraman had me roaring like a WWE fan.
Overall, the movie follows familiar comic book beats, but that’s the charm. This wasn’t trying to reinvent the wheel, it was trying to bring the comic page to life. And it did.
In the end, I walked out with a huge smile, and the same renewed love for Superman like always. I can’t wait to see how the DCU builds from here.
🥸🥸🥸🥸½ out of 5 Wise Men for me!
